Rough cut - Display and feedback meeting (25/02/11)

After editing, we produced a rough cut to show the rest of the class and receive constructive criticism of areas of our video we could improve.
The first criticism was that we needed to improve was our titles. We had spend little time focussing on our titles and we knew that this would be an issue raised so we where not too concerned. We would be developing our knowledge of titles through research into other film opening scenes, so we can improve our opening scene titles.
We will focus on:
  • The information displayed within the title
  • The font and style of the title
  • The effects used when the title appears in the shot and also when it disappears
  • Colours of titles
  • The position of where the title will appear
  • Also when and for how long the title will be shown
The class also struggled to understand how the film name 'Against all odds' made relevancy to the whole video. After previous meeting, as a group, we had already discussed that we didn't think the title being used was suitable for the video. We will discuss the most suitable title for the opening scene based on the synopsis of the whole film, and the title that's suites it the best.

When showing the class the rough cut, they were impressed with the editing throughout, and also complimented on how well the shots had been edited to go with the beat of the non-digetic music. They also suggested minor tweaks that would need to be corrected, but we were awear of the tweaks and wasn't too concerned as it was only our rough cut.
They also memtioned that in some circumstances the digetic sound was far too loud, compared to the sound volume of the non-digetic song beenplayed throughout the opening scene.

Although there where many critisicms made, we felt that all the improvement mentioned, would help us improve the overall quality of our opeing scene, and, as a group, very happy with the feedback given.
